Weekly Gaming Recap - May 26th, 2023
A PlayStation Showcase full of Live Service games, an extensive Final Fantasy XVI preview, and a new PlayStation Portable.
The First PlayStation Showcase since 2021
It has been a minute since PlayStation streamed a presentation to outline the coming years of content we’ll be playing on our PlayStation 5’s and depending on who you ask, the show left a lot to be desired. Reflecting their new focus of live service games, we saw a bunch of CG trailers from studios they have acquired over the years alongside staples like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
A New Portable PlayStation Device
After some rumors, we’ve finally seen the next attempt at a portable gaming device from PlayStation. What’s being referred to as “Project Q” will launch later this year as a remote play device to play your PS5 library. But there are several hoops to jump through. Staff writer Dan Rockwood breaks down all the details of the device and if you may be the target audience.
PREVIEW: Final Fantasy XVI
A while back, our News Editor Giuseppe Nelva was invited to the Tower of London to go hands on with Square Enix’s upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive, Final Fantasy XVI. After playing a few hours of the game, he walked away very impressed. Check his full preview to see why the game gave him a “really, really good feeling” that it would live up to the hype.
The Mature Nature of Final Fantasy XVI
If you’ve noticed any of the pre-release footage of Final Fantasy XVI, you may have noticed its focus on darker, violent imagery. Producer Naoki Yoshida has compared the tone and vision of the game to Game of Thrones, and in our interview with Yoshida, he goes deeper into creating a mature story in the Final Fantasy saga.
