Weekly Gaming Recap - April 21st, 2023
PlayStation and SEGA continue the acquisition game, Dead Island 2 is FINALLY here, and it's a big week for Nintendo games.
The Acquisition Wars Continue…
PlayStation
This week, PlayStation announced they have acquired Firewalk Studios, a new development team that has been working on an exclusive multiplayer title for the blue brand in efforts to expand their live service offerings. Cleary, PlayStation must have liked what they saw…or they really want to pursue Games as a Service titles as Firewalk is now the 3rd studio they’ve bought that specializes in GAAS. For more details see the full story!
SEGA
The other (first?) blue brand, SEGA, also made waves this week as it was revealed they would be acquiring Rovio Entertainment, the makers of the iPod Touch staple Angry Birds. Personally, I think we’re overdue on a Sonic the Hedgehog themed Angry Birds, and with SEGA recently pushing mobile with their collaboration with NieR producer Yoko Taro, this is a purchase that just makes sense in 2023.
